Child Safety Standards
Last Updated: August 11, 2026
Ratemate is a social app for rating and recommending places, films, books and other things people love. Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) has no place on it.
Ratemate has a zero-tolerance policy toward child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and toward any content, behaviour or account that sexualises, endangers or exploits a minor. We remove such content the moment we become aware of it, permanently terminate the accounts responsible, and report to the relevant authorities.
These standards apply to everything on Ratemate: profiles, photos, ratings, comments, lists, direct messages, and any other content a user creates or shares.
1. Prohibited Conduct
The following are strictly forbidden on Ratemate, and enforcement is not conditional on intent, framing, artistic claims, or whether the content was created elsewhere:
• Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form — photographic, drawn, animated, computer-generated or AI-generated — including sharing, requesting, linking to, or advertising it.
• Sexualisation of minors, including sexualised depictions, descriptions, commentary or "rating" of anyone under 18.
• Grooming — building a relationship with a minor to sexually exploit or abuse them, on or off the platform.
• Sextortion — threatening to reveal intimate imagery to coerce a minor.
• Solicitation of a minor for sexual purposes, or offering, requesting or arranging sexual contact with a minor.
• Trafficking of a minor for any purpose, and any facilitation of it.
• Promoting or normalising sexual interest in minors, including material that glorifies, defends or seeks community around it.
• Sharing personal information of a minor with the intent or effect of enabling any of the above.
Attempting to use Ratemate's features — search, direct messages, comments, lists or profiles — to reach or contact minors for any of these purposes is equally prohibited.
2. Age Requirements
• Ratemate is not intended for children. Users must be at least 13 years old, or older where local law requires a higher minimum age, as stated in our Terms & Conditions.
• Every account provides a year of birth at sign-up. Accounts belonging to users under 18 are set to private by default, so their activity is not publicly visible.
• Accounts we identify as belonging to someone under the minimum age are removed.
• Ratemate is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. See our Privacy Policy.
3. How to Report Child Safety Concerns
In the app. Every profile, item, comment and chat has a three-dot menu with a Report option. Choose a reason (including Inappropriate or Harassment) and add details in the description field. Reports are private — the person you report is never told who reported them. You can also use the three-dot menu to Block a user and cut off all contact immediately.
By email. Anyone — user or not — can report a child safety concern directly to support@ratemate.com. Please include a link to or username of the account or content involved.
To authorities. If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. You can also report to:
• NCMEC CyberTipline (international): report.cybertip.org
• Internet Watch Foundation (UK / international): iwf.org.uk/report
• İhbarweb (Türkiye): ihbarweb.org.tr
Reporting to an authority does not replace reporting to us, and reporting to us does not replace contacting law enforcement when a child is at risk. Please do both.
4. How We Respond
• We review every report. Reports are worked through a moderation queue with a target of review and resolution within 24 hours. Suspected child safety reports are prioritised ahead of everything else in the queue.
• We remove the content. Violating content is taken down across the app — including copies propagated into feeds, profiles and shared cards.
• We terminate the account. Accounts involved in CSAE are permanently terminated, not warned. Where the same person is identified behind multiple accounts, all of them are removed.
• We preserve and report. Where we become aware of apparent CSAM, we preserve the relevant records as permitted and required by law and report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and/or the competent authorities in the relevant jurisdiction.
• We cooperate. We respond to lawful requests from law enforcement and child protection agencies investigating child safety matters.
Because CSAM is illegal to possess or distribute, we do not return removed material to the account holder, and appeals do not restore it.
5. How We Reduce Risk by Design
• Ratemate is not an anonymous or random-chat app. There is no stranger matching, no anonymous messaging, and no random pairing. Accounts are tied to a verified phone number.
• Accounts of users under 18 are private by default.
• Users can make their account private, block any other user, and hide their activity at any time. Blocking removes the follow relationship in both directions and cuts off messaging, mentions, search visibility and feed exposure.
• Reporting is available on every user-generated surface in the app, and the report queue is monitored daily.
• Repeated independent reports against the same account are escalated for priority review.
6. Legal Obligations
Ratemate complies with applicable child safety laws and regulatory requirements in the jurisdictions where the app is available, and with the child safety requirements of the platforms that distribute it, including Google Play's Child Safety Standards policy and Apple's App Store Review Guidelines. Where local law imposes stricter obligations — including mandatory reporting or data preservation — we follow the stricter requirement.
